The Story of Our Zāwiyah
Our Zāwiyah began humbly, with sincerity and intention rather than space or resources, and grew by the grace of Allāh into a settled home for remembrance and learning.
The very first Zāwiyah was located in a small garage connected to the Shaykh's home. Though modest, it was filled with barakah. With himmah and the support of our Shaykh, we renovated that space, building a new wall and preparing it to host gatherings of remembrance and learning. At that time, we were among the first Zāwiyahs established in South-East Melbourne, taking an early step in serving the spiritual needs of the community.
As the community grew, so did the need for a larger space. We moved to a second location, still a garage attached to the Shaykh's house, which gave us more room and comfort. Here we could cook and serve meals, which drew people closer and brought more of them through the door, and the Zāwiyah became a place where everyone felt welcome.
Today, we are blessed to be in our third and current location. For the first time, the Zāwiyah is officially rented and stands independently, no longer connected to a private home. It now functions as a dedicated space with an office, madrasa, and various classes and programs. Over time, our gatherings have increased from once a month, to once a fortnight, and now to weekly, sometimes twice a week, as the need and eagerness within the community have grown.
This is a story of steady growth, sincere intention, and shared effort. With each step we keep looking ahead, hoping to serve more people and, in shā' Allāh, to move into a larger home in time, while holding firmly to the values and spirit the Zāwiyah began with.
